In this square the travelling musicians usually offer improvised flute concerts, which contribuye to give it a permanent atmosphere.

The square holds one of the most monumental sets in the city:

The Royal Palace, residence for the count of Barcelona since the 13th-century, with the impressive Salón del Tinell, where the catholic Kings recieved Columbus after his arrival from America. It's an outstanding gothic room with great arcades.

Beside we find the Santa Àgata chapel, integrated in the same rampart, also gothic, with an altarpiece of the constable, Jaume Huguet, from 1464-65.

The History Museum is sited in the same square, since 1931 (carried here stone by stone from the Carrer dels Mercaders)

In the cellar of the museum there are rests of the Colonia Iulia Augusta Faventia Paterna Barcino. Other important testimonies of the development of the city are exhibited.
