The Cathedral

Almanzor demolished here an old temple, after a romanesque church was constructed and then substituted by a gothic one, begun in 1298, with King Jaime II.

The façade was not ended until 1913. The octagonal twin towers are from the 14th-centruy.

The interior, of gothic style, has three naves. We have to outstand some aspects, like the stalls, from the 15th-century, the chapel of San Benito, with a magnificent altarpiece by Bernat Martorell, and Santa Eulalia's crypt with this woman's sarcophagus, martyred in Roman times.

Six indians brought to Spain by Columbus where baptized in this cathedral in 1493.

The gothic cloister is shadowy, with vigorous palm trees and a small fountain in one of its ends, decorated with a statue of Saint George.

On its trees there are american parakeets (this exotic species has dominated Barcelona) which balance the tranquility of the beautiful place.
