Barcelona has always had a great maritime tradition. Its Old Port, the Port Vell, is nowadays used for sport and leisure activities.
It's sited at the end of the Ramblas, always watched by the Columbus statue. Nearby we find the old ataranzas (shipyards)
In front of the basin pier, through a modern gateway, you get to Maremagnum, a huge compound of shops and restaurants, as well as a modern acuarium, the biggest in Europe.
In this surroundings and the calm Moll de la Fusta, there are agreeable terraces and modern design elements.
The golondrinas (swallows), are boats that make trips from the old port to the industrial port.

The old port is now a great meeting point for leisure. Picture Guiarte.
