Beside the palace Cosme I asked on the 16th-century for a building for offices.

The Birth of Venus, by Botticelli, one of the masterpieces in the gallery. Guiarte.
It's constructed on the place formerly occupied by a Romanesque church, between the palace and the Arno. It's a building in a U form.
An elevated passage joins the Palazzo Vecchio and the Gallery. The picture gallery is on the first floor. It holds a magnificent collection, basically italian paintings, making the museum one of the best in the world.
The centre is chronologically arranged, beginning with the primitive tuscans (until room 6) After there are mgnificent paintings by Paolo Ucello, Domenico Veneziano, Filippo Lippi and Boticelli. There are two masterworks by Boticelli: The Birth of Venus and the Primavera.
The gallery also holds interesting pieces by Laonardo da Vinci, Durero, Correggio, Michelangelo, Raphael, Tiziano, Andrea del Sarto, Tintoretto, Rubens, Caravaggio etc.
Along the corridor we can admire excellent sculptures, mostly roman pieces, copied from greek ones.
After the tour, it's worthy visiting the cafeteria and the terrace, to the end of the west wing. A good capuccino will revive our tired spirit while we contemplate a splendid view of the Palazzo Vecchio. The Medici used to contemplate the animated piazza from this site.
