Museo Arqueológico Nacional

Madrid's National Archaeological Museum is sited behind the noble building of the National Library, of Hellenistic style.

It has important collections of Etrurian, Egyptian, Greek and Roman elements.

The museum holds important pieces from the prehistory until the 19th-century.

From the Iberian era outstand the Dama de Elche and the Dama de Baza; from de Visigothic era the Treasure of Guarrazar; and from the Middle Age the Virgen con el Niño, from Sahagún de Campos (León)

Beside the entrance to the museum there is a replica of the prehistoryc paintings in Altamira.

It's usual to see good temporary exhibitions of antique art.
