Retiro

The Retiro is a park sited in the same centre of Madrid, where in old days there was a palace constructed for Philip IV and an area for pleasure of the royal family.

There are agreeable spaces for a walk, and a lake with a monument to Alfonso XII, by José Grasés Riera.

Nearby the lake there are beautiful palaces; the Velázquez Palace and the Crystal Palace, both by Ricardo Velázquez, constructed during the late 19th-century.
