The Old Town Square

Crossroads, medieval marketplace and first core of the city. Prague's market is sited here since the Middle Age, and political activity took place here too.

Revolutions and beheadings took place here in the 17th-century; rebellion against Germany in 1945 started here, and here, in 1990, democracy was again proclaimed.

St. Nicholas Church, baroque and from the early 18th-century, is sited here. The are several palaces from different periods, from gothic to baroque, some of which are museums. The popular Town Hall also stands here.

Among the most interesting elements, the gothic Bell Palace; the Storch House; St. Nicholas Church, of monumental façade; the Town Hall; and the Tın Church, that looks at the square over smaller buildings.

Tın Church is the most notable gothic building in Prague, though it was finished and reformed with baroque elements.

The pinnacles on the two towers, looking over the square, are specially outstanding. Tycho Brahe, the notable astronomer, is buried here.
